Social Media Policy & Disclaimer

General Disclaimer

The content shared on my social media accounts is designed to provide general information and educational resources related to mental health and religious harm recovery. While I strive to provide accurate and helpful information, I cannot guarantee that it will always be free from errors. Information posted on my social media platforms is for educational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for psychotherapy. Engaging with me or this content (either through comments or direct messages) does not establish a client-therapist relationship.

Content Development

The opinions expressed on my social media accounts reflect my professional views, formulated from my advanced education, clinical experience, and personal background. It’s important to note that the field of religious trauma research is still developing, with limited peer-reviewed articles available for reference. Therefore, my content combines clinical experience, research, and relevant theories such as trauma theory, family systems theory, and attachment theory. This composite approach allows me to provide unique perspectives for those recovering from religious harm while remaining grounded in well-established research.

While the concepts I reference are informed by research, it’s important to note that social media content is not academic writing and does not follow formal citation practices. None of my content is directly quoted from others’ work, and I do not knowingly copy the work of researchers or other content creators. The terminology I use, such as “religious trauma,” “purity culture,” “cults,” etc., are widely accepted terms that are not proprietary and cannot be attributed to a single writer or researcher, which means terms such as these are not citable.

If you have concerns that any content posted on my social media or other public-facing accounts is copied or plagiarized, please use the form at the bottom of this page to submit details about your concern.

Comments

Comments may be turned off on some of my posts. Though I appreciate the support from community members and the opportunity for survivors to connect, comment sections are increasingly targeted by bots and trolls, which compromises the safety of this space. Moderating comments to maintain a safe environment is time-intensive, and I may choose to turn off commenting on some posts to prevent abuse and harmful language.

When comments are open, please be respectful and kind to others. Any abusive behavior, hate speech, or trolling will result in comment removal or potential blocking.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Please remember that social media is a public platform, and any interaction you have with my content may be visible to others. Do not share personal or sensitive information in comments or direct messages. If you have specific concerns or need support, I encourage you to contact a licensed mental health professional directly.

Additionally, while I make every effort to provide accurate and helpful information, I am not liable for any actions taken based on content shared on this platform. It’s important to understand that my social media content is not a substitute for professional therapy or guidance.

I reserve the right to update or change this policy at any time to reflect updates to my practice, changes in industry standards, or adjustments to social media platform guidelines. Any significant changes will be communicated to my followers.

This policy went into effect on June 1st, 2023 and was last updated on April 19th, 2025.
